Braselton’s Historic Gym Gets a New Chapter: Modern Updates, Preserved Character

After 65 years as a landmark in the heart of our community, the Historic Braselton Gym is on track for a major transformation that blends modern amenities with its storied past. The Jackson County Board of Commissioners has moved forward with plans to renovate and expand this beloved facility ensuring it continues to serve residents for generations to come.

Located at 4829 Highway 53, just behind the town’s charter school, the project calls for comprehensive improvements that will bring the aging gym up to contemporary standards while still honoring its historic character. The scope of the renovation includes structural upgrades, new systems, and additions designed to enhance usability for county recreation programs, community events, and youth activities.

Earlier in 2025, Jackson County officially solicited sealed bids for the renovation and addition to the gym, inviting contractors to help breathe new life into the facility. A mandatory pre-bid meeting was held on site in June, reinforcing the county’s commitment to involving local partners in every step of the process.

County leaders see this as more than just a construction project, it’s an investment in Braselton’s quality of life. By combining modern upgrades with preservation of the gym’s classic charm, the renovation aims to create a space that feels both familiar and fresh for families, students, and fitness enthusiasts alike.
