Don't Trash Your Pumpkins! Hand Me Down Zoo Needs Them for Animal Treats

As the holiday season continues in Barrow County, a local animal sanctuary has a special request for residents.

Hand Me Down Zoo in Winder is asking the community to donate their leftover, uncarved pumpkins.

Instead of going to waste, these gourds provide a wonderful and nutritious feast for the zoo's diverse animal residents.

Donating is simple.

A pallet is available anytime for drop-offs right in front of the zoo sign at 1056 Hwy 211 NW in Winder.

To keep the animals safe, all pumpkins must be free of paint, wax, or any decorations.

The sanctuary is also accepting donations of hay bales and festive corn stalks through the end of December.

For larger donations from farms or businesses, please text 706-429-4591 to arrange a special drop-off time.

This community effort turns holiday leftovers into critical enrichment for rescued animals, giving gourds a meaningful second life.
