Braselton has named Ron Bennett as the sole finalist for town manager. See what this means and when the council could vote. |
The Town of Braselton has announced Ron Bennett as the sole finalist for the town manager position. The position became available in January following the departure of longtime Town Manager Jennifer Scott, who served the town for 28 years before the Braselton Town Council voted to part ways with her earlier this year. Bennett brings a strong background in both municipal leadership and law. Most recently, he has worked as a litigation attorney for State Farm. Prior to that, he served as assistant city manager for Johns Creek from 2023 to 2024. Earlier in his career, Bennett spent nearly two decades as a partner with Carothers and Mitchell, where he represented several local governments across Georgia. His experience includes serving as city attorney for Johns Creek (eight years), Flowery Branch (eight years), and Bethlehem (18 years), as well as providing legal counsel to Gwinnett, Hall, Fulton, DeKalb, and Athens-Clarke counties. State law requires the town to publicly identify a sole finalist at least 14 days before the town council can vote on an official appointment. This announcement follows a called meeting on January 16, during which the town council voted to place Scott on paid administrative leave. Scott was present at the meeting. The council did not publicly state a reason for the decision. During the same meeting, the council appointed Chuck Button as interim town manager, effective immediately.
The town council is expected to consider the appointment of a permanent town manager following the required public notice period. |
