Chateau Elan Winery Brings Home National Best of Class Honor

Braselton, GA’s Chateau Elan Winery wins Best of Class at the 2026 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition for its Sauvignon Blanc Reserve

Braselton has another reason to raise a glass. Chateau Elan Winery has earned a prestigious national honor, bringing well-deserved recognition to one of the community’s most iconic destinations.

At the 2026 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition—one of the largest and most respected wine competitions in North America—Chateau Elan’s 2024 Sauvignon Blanc Reserve was awarded Best of Class, standing out among Sauvignon Blanc wines from the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

The competition evaluated more than 5,500 wines from over 1,100 wineries, judged blind by a panel of 52 experts. Only a select group of approximately 150 wines received Best of Class honors, placing Chateau Elan among an elite tier of winemaking excellence.

“This is a moment we’ve been working toward for years,” shared Simone Bergese, Executive Winemaker and Winery CEO at Chateau Elan. “To receive this recognition on such a respected stage is incredibly meaningful, and it reflects the dedication and passion of our entire production team.”

While Chateau Elan has long been known for its exceptional red wines and fortified ports, this award marks a major milestone in the winery’s continued effort to elevate its white wine program. It’s a testament to a philosophy rooted in sustainability, minimal intervention, and allowing each varietal’s natural character to shine.

Bergese, who joined Chateau Elan in 2012, brings decades of international experience from Italy, Australia, and across the United States. Under his leadership, the winery has grown from producing just seven wines annually to more than 30, earning over 500 awards along the way—including recognition from Wine Enthusiast, Decanter World Wine Awards, and now one of the industry’s most competitive events.

In addition to the Best of Class honor, several Chateau Elan wines—including selections from its Fingerprint Collection, Tannat, Aglianico, Mameli, and Port Reserve—also received Gold Medals at the competition.

For those who call Braselton home, the honor is a proud reminder that a nationally recognized winery sits right in our own backyard. Chateau Elan continues to represent the area with distinction, earning acclaim well beyond North Georgia while remaining a beloved local landmark.

Here’s to celebrating excellence—right here at home.
