As the festive buzz from Winder's Jug Tavern Festival and Braselton's holiday prep fills the air, a local animal sanctuary has a special request for the community.

Hand Me Down Zoo in Winder is asking residents to bring their leftover pumpkins to the facility, turning potential holiday waste into a wonderful feast for the animals.

This annual pumpkin donation drive provides critical enrichment for the zoo's diverse residents.

Instead of letting your gourds rot on the porch, you can give them a second life as a nutritious snack for some very deserving creatures.

The zoo has made the process incredibly simple for everyone.

A donation pallet is conveniently located right in front of the zoo sign at 1056 Hwy 211, Winder GA, accessible anytime.

However, the zoo has an important rule to keep their animals safe.

All donated pumpkins must be uncarved and free of any paint, wax, or decorations.

It's a crucial step to ensure the health and safety of the animals enjoying these seasonal treats.

The zoo is also accepting donations of hay bales and festive corn stalks to help with feed and habitat enrichment through the end of December.

For those with a large number of pumpkins, like local farms or businesses, the zoo staff is ready to help.

A quick text to 706-429-4591 is all it takes to arrange a special drop-off time.

This community effort in Barrow County ensures nothing goes to waste this holiday season, connecting local families directly with the care of rescued animals.

It's a powerful way to recycle and repurpose, providing a meaningful contribution that goes far beyond a simple handout.

So before you toss that pumpkin, consider making a short trip to Hand Me Down Zoo.
