If it feels like there are a lot more people living, working and driving around Jackson County these days, the latest numbers confirm it.

Jackson County's population has grown by more than 30% in just five years, making it one of the fastest-growing counties in the country and highlighting the dramatic transformation taking place along the I-85 corridor.

According to U.S. Census Bureau estimates, Jackson County grew from 75,945 residents in 2020 to 99,265 in 2025 - an increase of more than 23,000 people.

Between 2024 and 2025 alone, Jackson County ranked fourth in the nation for population growth among counties with at least 20,000 residents.

And Jackson County isn't alone.

Neighboring Barrow County grew 19.4% between 2020 and 2025, reaching 99,773 residents, while Hall County grew 11.7% to 226,568 residents.

Jobs Are Helping Fuel the Growth

One of the biggest forces behind the population boom is continued industrial development along Interstate 85.

Major employers and industrial parks have increasingly chosen Jackson County for new facilities, bringing thousands of jobs to the area and attracting workers from throughout Northeast Georgia and metro Atlanta.

One of the newest projects is a $185 million Siemens manufacturing facility currently under construction in Pendergrass.

The facility is expected to create approximately 1,400 to 1,500 jobs, with average annual wages of around $66,000 plus benefits.

Jackson County Chamber of Commerce CEO Steve Wittry told a local news channel that industrial parks along the I-85 corridor are already drawing employees who commute 30 to 45 minutes - sometimes an hour - from Gwinnett County, Atlanta and communities farther south.

Growth Brings Opportunities and Challenges

The economic impact can be significant. More employers mean more jobs, additional investment and new customers for businesses throughout the area.

But adding more than 23,000 residents in five years also brings challenges.

More people mean increased demand on roads, schools, housing, public safety, healthcare and other community services. Traffic and development have already become frequent topics of conversation among residents throughout Braselton and Jackson County.

Wittry said local leaders are working with municipalities to manage the growth while preserving the qualities that make Jackson County an attractive place to live.

For communities like Braselton, Hoschton and Jefferson, the numbers offer another indication that the growth residents have seen unfold over the past several years isn't slowing down.

Jackson County is now approaching 100,000 residents.

And with major employers continuing to invest along I-85, how the area manages that growth is quickly becoming one of the most important local issues in the years ahead.
