Who says you have to be a grown-up to start a business?

Some of the next generation's business owners may be getting their start right here in Braselton, thanks to Kids Markets, a nationwide program that gives children the opportunity to turn their creative ideas into real businesses.

On Friday, November 6, from 3 to 6 p.m., young entrepreneurs will have the opportunity to set up shop at the Braselton Farmers Market, sell their own products, and discover what it's like to be their own boss.

And while making a little money is certainly part of the excitement, the real value goes far beyond what ends up in their pockets.

A Real Business Experience for Kids

Kids Markets is designed for children ages 5 to 17, giving them the opportunity to create, market, and sell products directly to customers.

From handmade jewelry and artwork to homemade crafts and creative inventions, young entrepreneurs decide what they want to sell, figure out how to price their products, and take responsibility for running their own booths.

Parents can help their children prepare, but the kids are the ones who interact with customers, answer questions, handle transactions, and make the sales.

It's a real-world experience that teaches skills you can't always learn sitting in a classroom.

Learning Lessons That Last a Lifetime

Starting a business takes more than having a good idea. It requires planning, creativity, problem-solving, and the confidence to put yourself out there.

Through Kids Markets, children get to experience those challenges firsthand.

They learn how to communicate with customers, manage money, make decisions, and adapt when things don't go exactly as planned.

Maybe a product sells out faster than expected. Maybe something they thought would be popular doesn't attract much attention. Either way, there's a lesson to take home.

For some kids, it may be their first experience earning money from something they created themselves. For others, it could be the beginning of a business they continue growing for years.

A Program Making an Impact Nationwide

What began in Utah in 2017 with just three markets has grown into a nationwide initiative reaching communities in all 50 states.

According to the organization, more than 113,000 young entrepreneurs have participated in over 2,200 markets, generating more than $9 million in sales.

The organization also provides educational resources to help children prepare for their market experience and offers scholarship opportunities to support young entrepreneurs interested in growing their businesses.

It's an impressive example of what can happen when children are given an opportunity to explore their ideas and discover what they're capable of achieving.

A Chance for Braselton to Support Its Youngest Business Owners

The Braselton Farmers Market has long been a place where residents can connect with local growers and food producers. Bringing young entrepreneurs into the market experience adds another opportunity for the community to encourage local talent.

For shoppers, it's a chance to discover something unique while supporting a child who's learning how to build a business.

And sometimes, the most valuable thing a customer can offer isn't just a purchase. It's a few minutes of conversation, a question about a product, or a little encouragement.

After all, every successful business owner had to start somewhere.

How to Get Involved

Registration is now open for the Braselton Kids Market on Friday, November 6, 2026, from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Braselton Town Green, 9924 Davis Street.

Young entrepreneurs who register should plan to check in between 1:30 and 2:30 p.m. before the market begins.

Registration closes at 8 p.m. on Thursday, November 5, or earlier if all available spaces are filled.

Families interested in participating can find registration information, market guidelines, and additional details at Kids Markets Braselton.

Whether your child already has a business idea or simply loves creating things, this could be the opportunity that inspires their next big adventure.
